Rally in the 100 Acre Wood
I learned about the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood while living in Rolla last year but wasn't able to see it. I made a special effort to check it out this year and was glad I did, since the race featured the return of Subaru Rally Team USA driver (and X Games star) Travis Pastrana. David Higgins, his Subaru teammate and a top rally driver, was also racing. There were also a large number of drivers from around the area and the world in a huge variety of cars.
It was my first rally race and I took some pictures on my own as a spectator on Friday, just to check the event out. Next year, I might try to snag a credential, work the racing stages more and try and shoot the famous jump at the cattle gate!

Bernie Sanders rally in Springfield, Mo.
I photographed the Bernie Sanders rally at JQH Arena in Springfield last week, on the Sunday before the Missouri primary. I had wanted to go up to Iowa and shoot some 2016 campaign pictures there, but ended up having a very busy January and wasn't able to make it, so I was happy to cover this.
Kym's 50th Birthday Bash
This is a mostly personal/partly professional set of pics from my friend Kym's 50th birthday party at the Humanist Hall in Oakland. She is one of the most upbeat, positive and fun people I've ever met and her birthday party was a good excuse to head out to the Bay Area for a long weekend. She turned her party into a fundraiser for Bay Area YMCAs and Mothers Against Drunk Driving, so it was fun to shoot some pictures to help document the evening.
Are Jack and Kym are the greatest YMCA trainers to walk the earth? Probably.
Cherry Picker
Pics for Feast from the Cherry Picker + Fare in Springfield. This is literally on the block where I grew up and my parents still live. It used to be a tiny Brown Derby liquor store that was robbed about every other week. In Springfield, old neighborhood storefronts are rare but this spot has some good ones. Even as a kid I knew they had a ton of potential and I'm glad to see it finally realized.
Startup Weekend, Springfield, Mo.
Pretty late to the blog, but I wanted to post pictures from Startup Weekend at the eFactory in Springfield that I shot for for Biz 417. It was cool hanging out again with the folks from Originate, where I co-worked all last summer, and it was inspiring to see people try and launch new businesses from just an idea in their heads.
Best Startups for Biz 417
I had my first feature in Biz 417 this month with their story Best Startups 2016. I've been shooting events for the magazine for the past month and I was excited when they asked me to take on this story.

Britain Mill in Halltown, Mo.
One of my favorite assignments this year was photographing Clyde and Janet Beal at their historic Britain Mill on Turnback Creek. It was a feature for Feast and you can read more about the mill on their site. Clyde and Janet purchased the mill, which has been there in one form or another since 1840, as a retirement project and have done an amazing job restoring it. I have a big interest in old houses, barns and traditional buildings so it was a joy to spend the afternoon at the mill.
Service station
Danny's Service Center in Springfield, Mo. from a bit earlier this year. I'm happily surprised this one is still chugging along.
Coffee Ethic
A quick assignment to photograph the Coffee Ethic in Springfield, Mo. for Feast Magazine.
